Welshmen never yield

10487460_10152619924864750_5358674632188718949_nIt was one of the thrills of my life to meet Mel, Roger, Selwyn and other members of the former Ferndale Male Voice Choir last night at a tremendous event organised by Chapter Arts Centre in Cardiff.

It was the launch and first night of Chapter’s Stanley Baker film season – a run of classics celebrating the tough guy from the Rhondda. I was there to give an illustrated talk after which Zulu would be screened.

Then I was told the Ferndale boys were there. What’s more, they were the surviving members of Stanley’s home-town choir who sang ‘Men of Harlech’ for the movie.

Like so many blokes of my age I just adore Zulu. So to meet these guys – every one of them a gent – was just immense. You can see it in my face.

What a thrill. And Zulu on the big screen? Just the best.

Well done to all. As it says in the song; “Welshmen never yield”. Chuffed to bits to be a part of this.
