Meeting the man who made Silent Running

sut4_jp

So I met one of my movie heroes yesterday: Douglas Trumbull, the man who designed many of the visual effects on Stanley Kubrick’s 2001: A Space Odyssey, who worked on Close Encounters of the Third Kind with Steven Spielberg and on Ridley Scott’s Blade Runner.

But Doug also directed the ecological sci-fi drama Silent Running, starring Bruce Dern and a trio of robot drones named Huey, Dewey and Louie.

Doug is the guest at the Widescreen Weekend, which is where I met him. I’d written an interview for The Yorkshire Post and the picture shows us commenting on the piece.

(Special thanks to Duncan McGregor)
