The documentary series for Yorkshire and Lincolnshire celebrates the 50th anniversary of Billy Liar, which was shot largely on location in Leeds and Bradford in 1962. The programme features colour behind-the-scenes footage shot by amateur cameraman David Chapman, who was 17 years old when he found himself on the film’s location in 1962. The 8mm film found its way to the Yorkshire Film Archive after it was offered to me following the release of my 2008 book Made in Yorkshire, which includes a chapter on Billy Liar. The chapter was used as the basis of this documentary segment.
